Antique Victorian Penny Lick Glass Deceptive Ice Cream Glass

In the 1890's ice cream vendors would serve the ice cream on the top of this shallow and deceptive glass, where the contents appear greater than it actually are.

The customer would then lick the ice cream and return it to vendor, who would reuse it.

Most often this customers would be disappointed by the minimal portion served and in retaliation would break or steal the glass

This cups were banned in London in 1898 and later the ice cream cones were introduced.

Today they are a great addition to a glass collection

It is in good condition.

The only fault I could find was a very small fleabite on the rim ( last photos )

Please see photos for detailed condition report.

It is 8.7 cm (3.4") in height

and 5.4 cm ( 2.1") at their widest point
